Engineering in History: Examples

engineering games and puzzles

Engineering can be seen throughout history in many forms, including ancient monuments and modern technology. For example, the ancient Egyptians credit Imhotep for building the step pyramid at Saqqara. Imhotep was credited with building the Saqqara step pyramid, which was completed in 3000 BC. Egyptians then deified him. This ancient Egyptian engineer may be familiar to you, but did know that he was also an Egyptian deified god.

Ancient engineering monuments

Many ancient engineering monuments can be seen as proof of the talent of humans. The ancient Egyptian civil engineers are reflected in the pyramids, ziggurats, and Pharos at Alexandria. The Acropolis and cities of Indus Valley civilization are two other examples of ancient engineering monuments. The Colosseum as well as the Acropolis were created by Roman and Ancient Greek engineers. Mayan civil engineers created impressive structures like the aqueducts and drainage systems at Teotihuacan in Mexico. The Turkish engineering monument, Al-Jazari, was constructed with five water pumping machines for the kings of the Artuqid dynasty. Other engineers, like Mechanics, developed the concepts of gears, escapement mechanisms, and

Early mechanical engineering

The origins and development of mechanical engineering can be traced back to Mesopotamia in the 5th Millennium BC. The field has expanded greatly over the years, encompassing everything from automobiles to energy conversion to microelectromechanical systems. The history of mechanical engineers reveals that it wasn't as simple as it seems today. No matter if you are interested or not in manufacturing equipment, automobiles, or energy conversion, mechanical engineers have shaped many aspects our lives.

Early electrical engineering

After World War I ended, the relationship between engineers and government became more complicated. Radio communication was used in wartime to communicate with others, but the government had to regulate this new technology. The United States government took over control of all wireless radio stations in 1917. It claimed that the radio spectrum was too precious to be left uncontrolled. The result was a boom in technology that changed the way we communicate today. Today you can witness the history of electricity both in New York City as well as elsewhere.

Early radio technology

In the early 1900s, radios were used for simplex communications. Morse Code, which was similar to the code used for writing, was used to send messages. These communications were one-way, and it was impossible to speak over them. Despite the limitations of early radios, the idea of sending electrical waves across vast distances was revolutionary. A new technology would have made it possible to create long-distance telephone lines.

Electric generators in the early days

The first electric generator was a feat of engineering. It made it possible for small amounts of work to produce electricity. In the 1880s, hydroelectric power was introduced to the Sierra Nevada by hydraulic mines. Almarian Decker was an engineer with the Brush arches light company, and had just moved to California from his native country. He integrated generation, transmission, and power in the first redlands three-phase alternate-current plant.

Early electrical engineering in western Europe

The 19th century marks the beginning of the history of electrical engineering. This was the time of Thomas Edison and Alexander Graham Bell, two of the most important people in the industry. Electricity spread rapidly and these two men became the first engineers to specialize in this field. The world was transformed by the growth of the electric industry. Governments became major employers of electrical engineers. The TVA is the most well-known of all government initiatives in this region, but local governments also provide power and service.

Santa Clara was home to early electrical engineering

Santa Clara University's School of Engineering was established in 1912. It began offering bachelor's degrees. The school later added doctoral and master's degree programs to its offerings. The school is now open to all of Silicon Valley. It offers an extensive range of programs in engineering including advanced degree programs. You can also network and receive continuing education. It is the only national organization that is exclusively dedicated to electrical engineering.

Electrical engineering in England at the beginning

England was the birthplace of electrical engineering. Many of the pioneers in the field, including George Stephenson and Isambard Kingdom Brunel came from the UK. In 1821, Michael Faraday made the first demonstration of electrical energy being converted into mechanical energy, which helped to cement the field. Not only did these pioneers make the field possible, but many other people contributed to its development.

The United States' early days of electrical engineering

While electricity was not a new technology, it was seen as necessary for many other jurisdictions. Governments began to assume responsibility for providing power and communication to its citizens and became major employers of electrical engineers. While the TVA is most prominent government initiative in this space, there were also other examples. Government control of power supply and communication was the norm, even outside the USA. Because of this technological advancement, electrical engineers started to recognize the importance in advancing their fields.

FAQ

How much do engineers make an hour?

These figures can vary from one person to another and from company to company. An average salary for a entry-level software engineer is about $60,000 per year. After you have been working for a few more years, your average salary may rise to over $100,000.

Which engineering is best for girls?

Girls are always looking for a safe place where they can learn how to build a better future for themselves. Engineering is not just for guys, they should know. Engineering can help women become successful and contribute positively to their communities and families.

Engineering is a promising career option for young women. It offers many opportunities to gain skills and knowledge that can lead to a satisfying job. It gives her confidence and independence.

It allows her the opportunity to make a significant impact on people's lives as well as the environment.

This website was created to encourage girls in engineering to apply to college. We want to show girls what engineering is all about.

What is an aerospace engineer?

Aerospace engineers apply their knowledge in aeronautics. Propulsion, robotics, flight dynamics, and flight dynamics to create aircraft, spacecrafts, satellites. Rockets and missiles can also be designed by them.

A space engineer could be involved in the design of new aircraft types, fuel sources, improving existing engines or creating space suits.

Are there special qualifications required to study engineering in Canada?

No. All you need is good grades in your GCSEs (or equivalent). However, some universities do require applicants to achieve certain levels of academic achievement before they can enroll. Cambridge University, for example, requires that applicants obtain A*-C grades on Maths, English Language and Science.

You will need to complete additional courses if you do not meet the requirements.

Additional maths/science subjects or a language course might be required. These options can be discussed with your school's guidance counselors.

How To

How to read engineering diagrams

Engineering drawings provide a visual description of an object. They contain many elements such as dimensions, symbols, text, etc. Engineering drawings have been around from ancient times. 3000 BC, Egypt was home to the first ever known drawing. Engineers use them for designing objects such as bridges, machines, and buildings.

Engineers use engineering drawing to explain how something looks. It aids others in understanding what you're talking. Engineers show the measurements of things with symbols and numbers. This makes it easier for people who don't know anything about engineering.

There are 2D and 3D types of engineering drawings.

2D drawings are flat representations that represent three-dimensional objects. These include plans, sections and elevation views.

3D drawings are a way to visualize real-life objects in multiple perspectives. They are usually created by computer software. For example, if you wanted to see what a bridge looked like from above, you could put the model into a program called SketchUp. After selecting "View", you would choose "TopView". Then you would rotate your view until you saw everything from above.

You should always look at the entire picture when looking at 2D drawings. Do not focus on one aspect. Make sure to notice important parts in the upper right corner.
